St. Mary’s Chinese Catholic Center and International Hotel Sr. Housing: San Francisco, CA. / Owners’ Rep and Construction Project Manager. Direct fiduciary control and management of $18 M of construction for phase 1 of a full block of new construction. Project incorporates three buildings for three separate Owners; project involved technically challenging shoring and mass excavations, as well as new type 1 construction (2001-present)

Congregation Netivot Shalom: Berkeley, CA: Programming, planning and design for a synagogue built as an extensive adaptive reuse of a former liquor store. The approx. $3.5 M, ~13,400 SF project includes a 300-seat sanctuary, social hall, classrooms, and support offices. Negotiated multiple reciprocal easement agreements w/ neighbors to maximize use of site. (in conjunction w/ Blair Prentiss, Prentiss & Prentiss) (2002 - 2005)

St. Boniface Church – Seismic Renovation and restoration: San Francisco, CA. Approx. $12M, full seismic renovation of historic church. David Finn served as Owners’ Rep and Construction Manager. The project scope included renovation of three interconnected registered historic landmark buildings, the church and tower, a friary residence, and school. The scope of work included reinforcing the un-reinforced masonry for compliance with seismic as well as accessibility upgrades, restoration of historic finishes and fixtures, and construction of a new middle school in the renovated shell of a former administration building. (1999 - 2002)

Trinity Methodist Church: Berkeley, CA., Consulted with building committee on clarifying planning goals and constraints and programming. Project seeks to better use existing 1927 concrete gothic sanctuary, auxiliary site buildings and surface parking lots. Included review of potential use of existing sanctuary building by a third party academic user. (2001)

Congregation Beth Israel: Berkeley, CA., New synagogue building. Planning and Schematic Design for a new sanctuary and associated conference rooms and offices, with design intent to rebuild a new building based on the design of an historic Polish Wooden Synagogue which had been destroyed in 1942. The structure was designed for heavy timber construction, with detailing to be historically accurate within constraints of new contemporary building codes and standards. Work included extensive research and planning work within the community. (2001 – note client did not proceed with project as commissioned.) This project was in association with joint venture partner Frank, Goring, Straja Architects.

St. Francis Lutheran Church: San Francisco, CA. Approx. $1 M, Renovation of registered historic landmark church included full fire protections and life safety upgrades, as well as seismic strengthening, new entry, memorial courtyard (with columbarium), and renovations opening the Social Hall up to exterior courtyard, and new landscaping. (1998-2000)

St. Peters Catholic Church: San Francisco, CA., Adaptive re-use of an existing school gym and classroom buildings as a ‘temporary’ church to be used by the community following a catastrophic fire in their existing wood building. Program included renovating existing building for use as sanctuary, chapel, library and conference rooms for use during duration of project to rebuild the historic church. (Executed on expedited timeframe, 1997)

Congregation Sha-ar Zahav: San Francisco CA. David Finn served as Owners’ rep and construction manager in $1.5 M renovation of a former mortuary for use as a new synagogue. The 75 year old building was gutted and rebuilt with new roof form to include a new sanctuary, social hall, classrooms and offices. Scope included design review, cost estimating, value engineering, General Contractor qualifications, construction contract negotiations, bid reviews and construction administration. (1996-1998)

Old St. Mary’s Church: San Francisco CA, David Finn commissioned to evaluate two differing schematic proposal for full structural upgrade to this registered historic landmark church in Chinatown. The review assessed competing seismic strengthening approaches relative to probable impact on the historic architecture and corollary renovation costs associated with the work. The report and recommendations also evaluated potential schedule differences. (1998)

Notre Dames des Victoire Catholic Church: San Francisco CA. $2.5 M Full seismic strengthening and renovation to an historic un-reinforced masonry church, and attached rectory building. Architect for design development and construction documents, as well as construction administration. Work included restoration of historic building materials and systems encompassing terra cotta, masonry, scagliola plaster, marble, stained glass windows, and the historic pipe organ. Accessibility adaptations included adding an elevator, as well as barrier removal renovations to restrooms, and new accessible paths of travel and entry. (1993-1997) David Finn Architects in association with Campoamor Architects.

Berkeley Richmond Jewish Community Center: Berkeley, CA. Miscellaneous renovations to a 65 year old historic landmark building. Building includes worship and community assembly spaces, classrooms and preschool facilities, and associated offices. Projects included ADA upgrades to restrooms, lobby and circulation renovations, kitchen, courtyard renovation, new playground structures, and other site improvements. David Finn provided management and oversight for the community center while serving as Building Committee chair and as member of the Board of Directors. Scopes of work included programming, design, coordination with third party designers and contractors, cost estimates, and construction Administration. (1993-1997)
