Galleries and Theaters

Brava, Women’s Theater Center: San Francisco, CA. Renovations, additions, and adaptive reuse of an Art Deco former movie theater and retail spaces. W/ main venue to seat 250, rehearsal stage, classrooms, seismic and ADA renovations. (1995) DF joint venture w/ Campoamor Architects

New Tivoli Design Studios, San Francisco, CA. Project included renovations to historic landmark North Beach New Tivoli Restaurant and Old Spaghetti Factory, with adaptive reuse to create an 8,500 sq. ft. design studio and courtyards in previously unused spaces. (1985) DF was job captain w/ Holt/Hinshaw

Beach Blanket Babylon, Fugazi Theater Renovation and Seating Addition, San Francisco, CA. Project included addition 80 bleacher seats to the historic performance theater. Design was theatrical, dramatic, and suited to the Beach Blanket Babylon mileu. Work included seismic strengthening, and construction on a very tight schedule (1984) DF was job captain w/ Holt/Hinshaw

Meyerovitch Gallery, San Francisco, CA. New gallery for presentation of work by modernists, Picasso, Miro, etc. Executed in a former retail space ion historic un-reinforced masonry building (1986) DF was job captain w/ Holt/Hinshaw

Corporate

Bank of America, Data Center Evaluation Project; San Francisco, CA. DF evaluated 1.5 million sq. ft for strategic planning review of use of the data center building. Included assessments of functional use patterns, opportunities and limitations, building code and ADA related accessibility exposures and risks. (1987) Project executed with DF as a consultant to Facilities Technics/ Space.

Levi Strauss & Co. Facility Management and Project Planning Consulting, San Francisco CA. DF Served as architectural and construction management consultant to LS&Co. Facilities Management Department (actively responsible for more than 1 million sq. ft. of corporate office space. The work scopes included feasibility studies of prospective relocations, construction projects – administration, scheduling, budgeting, preparing RFQs and RFPs for project, evaluating proposals, developing cost control management procedures, and developing pre-and post-occupancy evaluation programs. During that period significant work included:

• Facilities Audit: prepared report for Facilities Management Dept evaluating use of their approx. 1.2 million sq. ft. of space in 8 different buildings on S.F. corporate campus. Analytic report reviewed space distribution, utilization, efficiencies in spatial use, and churn factors. (1993 - 1999)

• Reengineering Effort: Consulted to Facilities Management regarding planning and scheduling for major reorganization of the corporate structure and the re-stacking and the departmental relocations that followed.

• Building Standard and Design Guidelines: DF worked with Facilities Management to develop a manual of space type standards and procedure to be used in planning and executing their expedited relocations and departmental relocations. Work included design spec standards and design guidelines for workspace and auxiliary spaces throughout the facilities.

• Training Manual: DF developed a training manual and program for Facilities Management staff involved with relocations and construction work. Manual covered full project from programming to scheduling, bidding, structure of the design and construction industries, etc. Developed together with general workshops and issued as written and graphic manuals.

The consulting included preparing project feasibility and project scope statements and RFPs, along with preliminary budgeting and scheduling for relocation projects at the Koshland Building, Haas Building, Saddleman Building, Oak Road and at the Levi Strauss Building. (1993 - 1998)

Lucent Technology: Facility Planning Study, confidential Bay Area location. Study of tenant improvement interior design and building systems upgrade for a design and management facility integrated with production engineering and manufacturing. (1997) DF consultant Architect to Facilities Technics/ Space.

Levi Strauss & Co., Icehouse Interiors, San Francisco CA. $12 M construction and $8M FF&E (cubicles, etc.) , 200,000 sq. ft. Scope of work included design and project management for a full interior gut and new construction as an adaptive reuse of a former warehouse and commercial building. The project transformed two 5 and 7 story heavy timber framed wood and masonry historic buidings into a linked executive office building for LS&CO. Project was awarded a national AIA project as best interior architecture of the year. (1991-1994) DF was project Manager and Project Architect w/ Swatt Architects.

Levi Strauss & Co., Levi’s Plaza Renovations, San Francisco CA. 40,000 sq. ft. Interior architecture, planning and design at the Koshland Building. Created state of the art office environments for Men’s Jeans Department. (1992) DF was Project Manager w/ Swatt Architects Apple Computer, Master Plan: Cupertino, CA. Approximately 1.2 M sq. ft. Part of design team developing preliminary corporate campus master plan. Planning incorporated seven research buildings with dining, conference, and health center facilities. 1990 DF, architectural design w/ HOK San Francisco.
